Birthday Celebration Part 2

Then on his actual birthday we had a little last minute party. He was in a pretty silly mood!

He really liked this one!
The cake.
Blowing out the candle. Gotta love the face.
After blowing out the candle he decided to drive the cars through the icing.

Cake is yummy!
Sugar kicked in!

Birthday Celebration Part 1

We kicked off the birthday celebration on Friday with a visit to the water park. Caden had never actually been swimming, so this was quite an experience for him. It took a little while to get comfortable in the water... but by the time we had to leave he was having a blast!

He and the dad had a good time floating in the lazy river. They have the same eyebrows!

This was the only slide he was big enough to go down, but it was perfect for him.
He also put his face under the water!
Vivian and Uncle Dave joined us too.

Then that evening we went to see Ice Age 3. On the way he needed his sunglasses!
Then he put them on top of his head when they got in the way.
He would NOT look at the camera! Stinker!
He made it about 3/4 of the way through the movie before we had to start asking him to be quiet. Thankfully there was only one other family in the theater with us, so it wasn't a big deal.
Before we left he tried out a few rides. Anything went... birthdays are a big deal!

After 13 long hours of labor he finally came! I remember the doctor holding him up for me to see him (he looked like an alien), but it was all so surreal. Just the other day I was looking at him and couldn't believe he was mine. I has been an exciting and fun two years. He makes us laugh on a regular basis and we love him more and more each day, which doesn't even seem possible.

How time flies...

Two years ago today I drug my tired, very pregnant body to work. I was huge, I mean really huge! I felt certain that I wouldn't actually have to give birth, but that the baby would fall out of my stomach when my belly button was finally pushed beyond it's limits and split open. My feet were swollen... really swollen... which was made worse by sitting at my desk most of the day. I had my 38 week appointment that afternoon and I had decided that I was going to go on home after my appointment to try to get the swelling down. Everyone at work was totally grossed out by the size of my elephant feet, so I knew they would not miss me!

I went to my appointment at 1:20 that afternoon. But things were different this time. My blood pressure was high... they checked it several times but it stayed high. Then when my doctor checked me she discovered that the baby's heart rate was too low. Then she told me to call my husband... we were having a baby that day! I was a little nervous... for several reasons (not the least of which was the baby's heart rate). This was great timing... I didn't have my bag packed... the husband was in Austin for a meeting... and I had not eaten anything since 7 am and I was STARVING!!!

The clinic and the hospital are connected, so I decided to just walk to the 3rd floor of the South Tower, which was still experiencing a little bit of construction... and I got lost... totally lost. So on the 3rd floor of some section of the hospital I finally asked a receptionist to point me to Labor and Delivery. She totally freaked out... she thought I was about to actually deliver the baby right there. Even though I tried to explain it was not really an emergency, she proceeded to take me to L&D herself, bless her heart. She was so panicked, however, that she walked 90 mph. Being 38 weeks pregnant, I was having quite a time trying to keep up with her... I thought I was going to pass out! Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, we reached our destination.

The nurses were ready for me... they even had A Baby Story on TLC playing on the T.V. (Like that was what I wanted to see, other women suffering through labor!)

When the nurse hooked me up she said "Oh, so you are in labor!"

And I said "Uh, no. I am being induced."

"Hmmm. You are having contractions."

"No, I'm not."

"Yeah, they are pretty regular. You don't feel them?"

Yeah, I was having regular contractions and I didn't feel a thing. Not even the slightest bit of pain... or tightening of my stomach. Since I was already contracting on my own my doctor left me to labor without the help of any drugs. I was already dilated to a 4.5... so they just broke my water (then I was a 6). Then we waited... for a total of 13 hours. Yep, 13 hours... I was starting to wish they had given me some drugs to make things go faster....

...to be continued

2 Months (and a couple of days)

I am not sure what the deal is, but she really does not like these monthly pictures. She gets the most sour look on her face! But her clothes are awfully cute!

I love this picture because you can see how fat her little thighs are! The higher up her leg you go, the more rolls you will find! It is too cute... and this will be the only time in her life when fat rolls on her legs will be considered cute!

She has also started "talking" and smiling! This is her telling me all about something while getting her diaper changed. Such a sweet face!

This is the best I could do at capturing the smile. It looks a little goofy, but she is happy none the less!

Conversations

Today was trash day... and of course we were watching the trash man drive down our street emptying trash cans. As usual, when he was finished we said good-bye to him...

The Boy: "Bye bye trash man."

Me: "Bye trash man. See you on Friday!"

TB: "Yeah, Friday."

Me: (seeing a teachable moment) "Yes, Friday. Today is Tuesday... trash day. He will be back on Friday. Do you know what we do tomorrow... on Wednesday?"

TB: (thinking... thinking...thinking) "EAT!!!!"

Food is always on his mind...it must be a boy thing.

By the way... he does eat more often than just on Wednesdays.

The PushUp Pop...

Since it has only been about 105 outside everyday for the last couple of weeks... and you can't really "play" outside in this kind of weather... and... well, just because I love my boy... I decided to get him some Push Up Pops for a special treat. He has never had anything like this... just some ice cream on occasion. It was certainly a treat to say the least.

He had a hard time figuring out exactly how to eat such a thing. The really confusing thing to him was that there is a straw in the bottom for the handle. He thought for sure he should be able to suck the ice cream out that way.
We had to basically teach him how to lick it. Here he is practicing sticking out his tongue! We may regret teaching him that later.
He is getting the hang of it.
Yep, now he understands.
This... well, this is when the sugar high hit. He became a man obsessed.
He couldn't get it into his mouth fast enough.
And if he didn't hurry it may very well have disappeared... never to return again! Or so he thought.
The aftermath...
Is it just me or does he resemble Heath Ledger in his last role as an actor... frightening!
Then he realized it was gone... oh the horror.

Finally he accepted the fact that it was gone... it didn't keep him from pleading for more... but eventually he gave up.

The Girl...

Poor Carinna has been suffering from seborrhea (a rash all over her face and top of her head) so I haven't wanted many pictures to remind us of her yucky condition! But lately, thanks to a switch to soy formula and some face cream, she is looking much better!

Kisses from brother... after he tried to sit on her head about 14 times and accidentally fell on her once... poor girl. I think she deserved the "tenderness".

This is the point at which I had taken too many pictures and ignored her feeding time. She is the master of the pouty lip... oh dear, we may be in trouble!
